We Overcome Anything
Supporting Parents and Teens
through Counselling
Hi, I am Reece —
A Counsellor and passionate mental health advocate based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
I believe when we all work together as a team, we can help ensure all parties are feeling supported and uplifted.
We Overcome Anything was established in 2017, as I wanted to create space and work with young people to overcome their struggles. This was driven by my own challenges that took far too long to overcome due to not having those spaces and more importantly the right people to guide, mentor, and support me.
My approach is person-centric — I want to get to know you and your teen/s, building rapport through genuine connection and trust.
Dear Parents…
This is an important message to you.
The one thing I want you to know is that when it comes to supporting young people, it's REALLY HARD. You've probably tried all the things - you’ve asked the school for help, maybe you saw a therapist or maybe you just haven't had any idea of where to go for help - and none of those things worked. In fact, you may have even come away from those meetings/sessions feeling worse…feeling like you were doing something wrong, like you weren't good enough or like you will just never have the type of family or relationship you once dreamed of…
And maybe there was even a time when you swore that you'd never parent the same way that you were parented, right? You vowed you wouldn't do this thing or that thing, but the reality is you ARE doing those things and then you hate yourself for it and feel guilty and feel the hopelessness creep in.
And the things you feel, the things you say to yourself, and the judgement just compound when you look on your social media and see all the parents that seem to have it all together.
But it's not your fault.
In fact, absolutely none of this is your fault. No one ever taught you how to parent or how to build connections with young people. You're using the same techniques and strategies that your parents used on you, most likely...And here's the thing. Times have changed, haven't they?
Our young people have access to Facebook,YouTube and Snapchat. They are taking on things so much earlier and you’re finding that what used to work for you just doesn’t work for the young people because it’s so different in 2024.
And you're not alone either. In fact, if it was only you that had these problems, I'd be out of a job. But I'm not. In fact, I'm incredibly busy working with parents and young people, doing private sessions, delivering workshops and presenting at public speaking events.
And do you want to know why I do it? Why I'm so passionate about it?
Let me tell you a story…
Through my years working in the mental health space and in schools I often saw the young person or the parent supported but seldom both. Last year I began running a parent program to help bring parents together to help support them and allow them to have a space with other like-minded parents.
It was amazing to see these parents come in so focused on their young people but by the end of the program they were also focused on themselves and what they could do for each other as parents, which in turn had a flow on impact on their young people. The best thing was that they saw that their challenges were shared amongst the group and as a result, realised and felt that they were no longer alone.
Off the back of this, I worked with several of the parent’s young people individually as well as too. The changes that occurred were remarkable. Why? Because the young people could see that their parents were really trying to create change within themselves, and that in turn created space for the young person to follow.
So, I get it. And I want you to know that you can turn things around. It might not be the way you think, but if you have an open mind, are ready to learn, want to make changes and will implement the things I'm going to share with you, then let's have a conversation and get you the support that you need today.
This is your invitation to take the first step - which I know, is often the most challenging. But I also know that if you are here, reading this, that you are wanting help and guidance. And I’m here, ready to offer that to you.
Our Services
Individual Counselling & Mentoring
I don't use a one size fits all approach. Each person and situation is unique, therefore I use the modalities that I feel that person needs in that moment. We can do this in person, online or by phone.
Group & Family Counselling
Group counselling is a therapeutic process where a small group of people (parents & teen) meet regularly. The goal is to provide support, share experiences, and work on personal growth or specific issues collectively.
Keynote Speaking & Events
I love going out and speaking to groups of parents, teens or both either in community and schools. I will talk to how to better connect with your teen and how as a parent we can grow, so we can be the best version of ourselves.
8 Week Parents Program
An 8-week program for parents of teens is designed to help parents address the unique challenges and dynamics of raising young people, this program generally cover key areas that are relevant to managing and improving parent-teen relationships
